Produced from the early 1960s to 1967 in steel (3590 watches), 14 kt gold (225 pz) and 18 kt gold (150pz) versions, the Chronograph ref. 6238 is the latest of the models produced with smooth bezel and graduated scale printed on the dial. It is a sober, but at the same time sporty watch, with more modern lines than previous chronographs. Considered the forerunner of the Daytona, it is known among collectors as the Pre-Daytona.
In the pre-series, with serial numbers 866,000 to approximately 1,200000 million, dials from the previous 6234 style series were mounted (which differed only in the caliber used) or others graphically similar, with or without tachymeter scale, with or without Oyster writing, with indexes and “leaf” hands.
The dials intended for the first models had the inscription SWISS at the bottom, after the million serial number T SWISS T.
This very important watch stands out for its very high conservation quality and the very small number of watches produced makes it practically unique.
