Panerai Luminor 5218-201 A LOGO Nos Full Set First Series

 

Since its origins, Panerai has been involved in military supplies but the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the ‘end’ of the Cold War, which had greatly conditioned relations and balances between states, represented a hard blow for companies that fed on military orders. Officine Panerai was among them and therefore decided, in order to survive the harsh economic rules, to turn to the ‘civil’ market.
This new watch was designed, the 5218-201A, inspired by the historical model 6152 1, with reduced measurements, we went from 47 to 44 mm. Obviously, it was decided to retain the crown protection bridge, which was first fitted to the 6152 1, one of the most important and distinctive patents in Panerai’s history. In order to understand the deep bond between Officine Panerai and the Navy, the presentation of this new watch was organised on the destroyer Luigi Durand De La Penne moored in the arsenal of La Spezia.

The highest levels of the Navy were present at the presentation.

The Luminor model, ref. 5218-201A was the first watch intended for the civil public, produced in 1000 pieces (actually only 687) and nicknamed LOGO because of the presence of the LOGO OP on the dial. This LOGO depicts two stylised arrows that represented diving products and landing systems respectively, which at that time represented the flagship of Officine Panerai.
The watch in question is not only a rarity by birthright but even more so because it is new, never worn and complete with everything.
