Watches on sale are offered on a “As Seen and Liked” basis: the watch is not serviced but is guaranteed to be original and as described in the data sheet.
Price from private individual with our guarantee of originality.
In 1988, the new Rolex Daytona ref. 16520, the first Rolex automatic chronograph, was presented at the Basel Show.
This new model was equipped with the innovative 4030 movement, a sophisticated elaboration of the best industrial movement of the time, the Zenith 400 El Primero.
More than 200 modifications were needed to bring it up to its own quality standards.
The new Daytona is produced in steel, gold and for the first time in steel and gold. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal, is water-resistant to 100 metres and is generously sized. All these features combined with the low production rate and the consequent difficulty of finding it on the market immediately turned it into a real object of desire.
It was a commercial phenomenon, resulting in very long waiting lists at dealers, or could be purchased ‘in parallel’ at a price far higher than the list price.
The first models had the bezel engraved in 200, and the dial printed in white, black or champagne, with five ‘detached’ inscriptions.
The entire production that included the first Rolex Daytona ref. 16520 had, as a good omen, the serial with the R of Rolex, later L, E, X.
The first numbering with the letter R was R 200,000.
We find the characteristics of the bezel at 200 and the floatting dial on all R’s and L’s up to around serial L 52, together with the 4-line dial and bezel at 225.
The watch for sale belongs to the early Daytona production 16523 with L2 case, black 4-line dial and first series bezel at 200 uph.
An incredible collector’s piece, accompanied by its original Italian openworked guarantee and offered at an exceptional price.
