The Rolex Sea-Dweller ref 1665 is the technical model par excellence in the house’s range, expressly designed for professional diving use. Its distinguishing feature is the unique helium ejection valve, which is indispensable during the decompression process following deep dives. Regular production began in 1971, although the first pre-series examples were in production as early as ’67.

In the first phase of production of the model, Rolex did not use an exclusive case, but used a “classic” Submariner case, probably that of references 5513/5514. This case, which was thinner than the later case (referred to as “thick”), is known to collectors as the “thin case” or, in Italian, “low case.”

This rare specimen has the “low case” and the red double inscribed dial (classified MK2) and also, looking at the watch in profile, one can appreciate another peculiarity: the “super domed”(T39) glass, a feature much appreciated by enthusiasts of the model and an exclusive, once again, of early production.

The Mk2 dial mounts on a Serial Range from about 1.6 to 3.5 million. It features fine and super graceful graphics, the Sea Dweller Submariner 2000 lettering is bright red from double printing ( red on white). We often find it with coloring tending to brown, these are the so-called Tropical .This watch has an incredible dial that has taken on a beautiful shade of dark brown, like a piece of pure cocoa.

The caseback has the last three digits of the serial number engraved, an unmistakable sign that Rolex considered these watches somewhat special from birth. This incredible Seadweller mounts a folded-link Oyster bracelet reference 9315 and finials 285.
