Rolex Submariner ref. 1680 Scritta Bianca Mk1 Dial

Ref. 1680 is the first reference in the history of Submariners with a date display. To make it easier to read, Rolex fitted it with a Tropic 127 crystal with a Cyclops lens, which magnifies the numbers by 2.5x. All Rolex Submariner 1680 watches are waterproof to a depth of 200 meters. The caliber used is the 1575, which is the 1570 equipped with a date display.
This watch is one of the first with white lettering. The dial is an MK1 with a beautiful patina: we can distinguish it by the fact that the “L” of Rolex is perfectly centered on the crown. The SUBMARINER lettering is comparable in length to the lettering indicating the depths, the 6 on the dial is closed, and at six o’clock the lettering “SWISS-T<25” appears.
It features the Ref. 93150 final 580 bracelet: steel with “solid” links. The bezel with Mk3 insert is bidirectional, meaning it can rotate both clockwise and counterclockwise.
Today, the most recent examples of the Ref. 1680 are the ideal gateway for those looking to purchase a vintage Rolex, while the rarer early examples are incredibly sought after.
Regardless of where you are in your Rolex collecting journey, the white lettering models are a very interesting goal, especially in this condition.
