The 1950s saw a surge in economic growth in the wake of World War II, which advanced the production of luxury goods such as wristwatches. Some of the most notable of this period were the extra-flat gold men’s watches that were elegant, sleek and simple.
Almost all the leading brands of this period created gold models in the 33 to 36 mm range. However, the gold models from Rolex that contained the rare calibre 1000 movement never achieved such prominence as they were swept away by the wave of sports models.
All productions of the calibre 1000 movement were characterised by gold cases ranging in size from 33 mm to 36 mm.
The hand-wound Rolex 1000 calibre is a movement with 18 jewels and is set in five positions, as is clearly visible on the movement bridge.
It has a subsidiary seconds hand at six o’clock which is very different from other Precision models of the time. It also has a 58-hour power reserve and is only 3.45 mm thick, the thinnest movement ever produced by Rolex.

Although Rolex is not known for competing in the race for the thinnest wristwatch, it has done a good job this time.
It has a stunning dial with very special arrowhead indices. Rarity within rarity, this watch is also chronometer-certified and VERISLIM inscribed. This extraordinary watch ref 9081 made in 1956 is in 18 kt yellow gold, with a 36 mm case and a perfect, extra-long mesh bracelet.
A rare watch for those looking for something truly beautiful and exclusive.
